18xx for two players – let’s choose the best game together!

Every now and then you ask which title is best for two players. Of course, I will say right away that for 18xx it is best to sit with three or more players, but we also have situations where there are only two of us, and then what???

Some of the 18xx have slightly changed rules for this occasion, in order to somehow complement the missing player or add something new to the game: 18CZ 1846, 1824.

Which of these games is the best?

Help us choose a title you’ve already played with this line-up. Vote now!

I chose titles that are available and are ready to buy, have a two-player variant, or have been often discussed as a two-player game.

1824 - two-player variant - how this title works for two players?
1830 - how this title works for two players?
1846 (two-player variant) - how this title works for two players?
1860 - how this title works for two players?
1862 - how this title works for two players?
1889 - how this title works for two players?
18Chesapeake (two-player variant) - how this title works for two players?
18CZ (two-player variant) - how this title works for two players?

  1. My bad, I know, but can I add 18ZOO? I based the 2p on 1860 ideas and I prefer over others for the speed and duration

  2. I have only played 1825 Unit 1 as two players F2F. But I did try 18SJ 2-player as I implemented it on 18xx.games. It was fun so I would recommend to try it.

    Otherwise I have heard people liking 18CZ, 1860 and 1889 2-player.

  3. I’ll play something else if I only have two players. I don’t think any of the 18xx ‘fixes’ for two player make it better than a poor game in comparison
