My (Marcin) 2019 summary

The year 2019 was a breakthrough for 18xx. For the first time I have the impression that 18xx games aren’t a totally unknown world that no one knows about. I can say more and more about these games and I have the impression that players are also interested in them more and more. Our local group of people playing (only or mainly) in 18xx is also growing. Some people are only for a while, but the number of those who stay with us for longer from year to year is still growing. Now there are 6 players. Not everyone can play in every week, but even if they appear once in a month, we almost always have at least 3 players. And it pleases me the most, people with whom I can share the same passion!

What else?
During last year two games 1824 and 1862 were released in large quantity . Several others were funded on kickstarter and achieved great success.

Last year I played 69 ties and several titles were new for me: 1817, 1824, 1826, 1828, 1836, 1883, 18BL, 18FL, 18GB, 18PA, 18Rhl, 18Scan. I didn’t even know that this list is so long! This gives one new game per month! From this lists the ones that I like the most and which are memorable to are: 1817 (5 games), 1836 (3 games), 1883 (2 games), 18GB (4 games), 18Scan (4 games). All of these games are quite different and very, very unique.

A few games from the list are average: 18BL, 18FL and 18PA. I played each of them twice. I will refuse playing next time 18BL and 18FL, unless we change the rules (e.g. In 18BL I would introduce the principle of building two yellow tracks instead of one). Maybe I will give a chance to 18PA some other time.

I only played three games from this list once: 1824, 1826, 1828 and 18Rhl and I don’t have a definite opinion about them yet. But I would like to play 1828 again the most.

Almost all of these games are described on our blog, here is the list:

This year’s list of new games looks very interesting too. There are still a few titles on my shelf that are waiting for the first game: 1832, 1835, 1841, 1870, 18Ruhr. Several games we have ordered and they will be delivered sooner or later: 1862, 18Chesapeke, 1861/67. And the only thing I miss is the time when I finally describe them to you 🙂

What titles did you get to know last year? Which new games do you like the most? You are welcome to comment and write…

Daje to jedną nową grę miesięcznie!

I jedynie czego mi brakuje, to czas aby wam to wszystko opisać 🙂

A wy jakie tytuły w zeszłym roku poznaliście? Które nowe gry wam się najbardziej podobały? Zapraszamy do komentowania.

  1. 2019 was the first full year for me running a game group at home, mostly playing 18xx. We met once or twice a month and I taught many people brand-new to 18xx using 1889 and 1861. Titles new to me that our group learned this year: 1861, 1867, 1832, and 18NewEngland. I also played many new titles in Chattanooga at the Rail Game con in January and plan to attend again this year in a couple of weeks, and some of the guys in the game group will plan to be out there for a day or two as well.

Your token sets made some of our games this year (1830, 1846) much more enjoyable – I am especially looking forward to teaching 1883 and 1862 in 2020 using your upgrade kits! Thanks so much.
