Bankruptcy time…

Sometimes bankruptcies happen, once a month, maybe less often? This time we had a whole day of playing and two bankruptcies happened to me! I do not know what it was? I will blame it for the disease, so it is not my fault 馃槈 I struggled with a virus for a whole week, I went back to work on Friday and I was not quite healthy on Saturday. Normally, I always analyze the state of the game, future train rush, and anticipate players’ play. This time I totally fell down, I thought it would be somehow, but 1857 with 4 players has got no mercy. Similarly in 1830.

We played with Micha艂 in Olkusz. I do not know a better place at the moment. A huge table, great lighting and lots of space. Just perfect.

In 4 players and an 8-hour time limit, we did not have too many options. Tolis wanted 1844, Micha艂 and Mateusz wanted something completely new. I have a few more titles on the shelf, but each of them takes time to get to know the rules. Only 1830 with a map on the other side could have been new. This is a variant that completely changes the distribution of forces on the board. Canadian, which was a weak company so far, has become one of the strongest companies. There were two other new companies and the map has changed a lot. It has expanded north and south. There is a new type of train, it is a 7-train, but the other rules regarding the purchase of trains have not changed, i.e., after purchasing the first 6-train, you can buy Diesel right away.

Apparently in the latest edition of 1830 this add-on is omitted, although on the other side of the board there is a map, but all the components that allow you to play some scenarios (additional companies, trains, terrain tiles and markers), apparently can appear separately in addition to 1830. The best way out is perhaps to combine both releases, to have a game with all add-ons and without errors. Especially that now you can buy an old edition at an affordable price.

The game promised to be very good, Micha艂 launched Baltimore, I was the president of one of the new companies, it has got two certificates of 20%. That’s a nice bonus. Unfortunately, the second 20% certificate was bought by Tolis. Which thanks to it soon became the new president of it. Earlier, I sold to it my private companies. At that time Micha艂 generated big revenue with four 2-trains, he built several stations and everything was so nice to him that there were two possibilities, either to speed up the train rush or to buy his shares. Both versions of the plan were very risky. To buy trains, I should have to completely clean my company out of capital and I decided on the latter solution, i.e. the purchase of shares in his company. And that was the key moment of my failure, Micha艂 cleaned the company out of money, which Mateusz helped him, left 4 x 2-trains in it and sold its shares. In the same SR, he launched another company that bought two 3-trains and the first 4-train! Then my 2-trains were eaten with rust and I stayed with two companies with one 3-train and cash for the purchase of one 4-train.

Soon, the first permanent trains were on sale, and I was horrified to see that I did not have a chance to collect money even for a weak 6-train. After the sale of all my available shares, I raised funds for only one 6-train, in the perspective it was necessary to buy diesel for my second company, so the game ended with my bankruptcy.

I wonder how long it would last if I was saved? Normally 1830 lasts about 5 hours, now we had the same bank, but a bigger board, more companies and more cheaper permanent trains. So less cash would go to the bank from the purchase of perms and at the time when all companies had permanent trains, more companies, means more income generated per round. It seems that the game should last the same or shorter.

After one game ended with bankruptcy, you can not say much. For sure it is an interesting change if you want to play something new and you like 1830 馃槈

The next title was planned from the beginning that someone would go bankrupt. Only we did not know who it will be? A few weeks earlier, we played 1857 Argentina in three players. That game was very even and we played extremely conservatively. This time there was one player more, it caused that to the phase of permanent trains, we launched all eight companies! Low-cost permanent trains is 4. This means that winning is an element of combining the skills of perfect anticipation and some deal of happiness. There is of course no random element, I mean a player’s happy arrangement of the order of the companies, turn in the game and the moment when permanent trains will be available.

I had neither happiness nor analytical thinking. When my turn came, I had poor companies and poor connections = bankruptcy for the second time.

Nobody predicted that we would have two games of bankruptcy and we had two hours left. It was the perfect moment to play a fast small 18xx game: 1836jr. This time only for 3 players. The perfect composition. It was a very fast skirmish, but unfortunately on the turn, when Diesle trains appeared, we had to stop and save the state of the game with the thought that we would return to it one day.

What do I think about the meeting? It is a pity that I did not opt for 1844, we would have played a beautiful game, from the beginning to the end. The more so because we have not been able to finish it previously, due to the time constraints of our local Pionek convention.

My two subsequent bankruptcies resulted in some unsatisfactory experience after this meeting. It was, though a bit softened by the last game. Which we did not play until the end, but which was at least very even.

For me it is also a waiting time, I’m waiting for labels from my local printing house (one whole week!), I’m waiting for next order of wooden elements (with trains, cubes..) and I’m waiting for something special from my friend, it could be something really wow, but now. … waiting time …

Czasami bankructwa si臋 zdarzaj膮, raz w miesi膮cu, mo偶e rzadziej? Nie wiem, co to by艂o? Zwal臋 to na chorob臋, przecie偶 to nie mo偶e by膰 moja wina! Podobnie w 1830.

Grali艣my u Micha艂a w Olkuszu. Nie znam aktualnie lepszej miejsc贸wki. Olbrzymi st贸艂, 艣wietne o艣wietlenie i du偶o przestrzeni. Idealne miejsce do grania.

W 4 graczy i 8-godzinnym limicie czasowym nie mieli艣my zbyt wielu opcji. Tolis by艂 za 1844, Micha艂 i Mateusz chcieli co艣 ca艂kiem nowego. Z nowo艣ci mog艂a by膰 tylko 1830 z map膮 z drugiej strony. Jest to wariant, kt贸ry ca艂kowicie zmienia rozk艂ad si艂 na planszy. Canadian, kt贸ry by艂 dotychczas s艂ab膮 sp贸艂k膮, zrobi艂 si臋 jedn膮 z najmocniejszych firm. Dosz艂y dwie inne nowe firmy i mocno zmieni艂a si臋 mapa. Rozszerzy艂a si臋 ona na p贸艂noc i po艂udnie.

Obie wersje planu by艂y bardzo ryzykowne, aby kupi膰 poci膮gi, musia艂bym w ten spos贸b ca艂kiem wyczy艣ci膰 moj膮 sp贸艂k臋 z kapita艂u i zdecydowa艂em si臋 na to drugie rozwi膮zanie, czyli zakup akcji w jego sp贸艂ce. I to by艂 kluczowy moment mojej pora偶ki, Micha艂 wyczy艣ci艂 sp贸艂k臋 z pieni臋dzy, w czym pom贸g艂 mu Mateusz (sam nie mia艂by na to szans), zostawi艂 w niej 4 x 2-poci膮gi i sprzeda艂 jej udzia艂y. W tej samej SR uruchomi艂 kolejn膮 firm臋, kt贸ra skupi艂a dwa 3-poci膮gi i pierwszy 4-poci膮g.

Zastanawiam ile trwa艂aby, gdybym si臋 uratowa艂? Normalnie 1830 trwa oko艂o 5 godzin, teraz mieli艣my taki sam bank, ale wi臋ksz膮 plansz臋, wi臋cej sp贸艂ek i wi臋cej ta艅szych permanentnych poci膮g贸w. Czyli mniej got贸wki trafi艂oby do banku z zakupu perm贸w i w momencie, gdy wszystkie sp贸艂ki mia艂yby permanentne poci膮gi, to wi臋cej sp贸艂ek, oznacza wi臋kszy doch贸d generowany na rund臋. Wydaje si臋 wi臋c, 偶e gra powinna trwa膰 tyle samo lub kr贸cej.

Kolejny tytu艂 by艂 nastawiony od pocz膮tku na bankructwo. Tylko nie wiedzieli艣my, na kogo wypadnie. Kilka tygodni wcze艣niej grali艣my w 1857 Argentyn臋 w 3 graczy. Tamta gra by艂a bardzo wyr贸wnana i grali艣my wyj膮tkowo zachowawczo. Tym razem by艂 jeden gracz wi臋cej, spowodowa艂o to, 偶e do fazy permanentnych poci膮g贸w, uruchomili艣my wszystkich osiem firm! Tanich permanentnych poci膮g贸w jest 4. Powoduje to, 偶e wygrana jest elementem po艂膮czenia umiej臋tno艣ci perfekcyjnego przewidywania i du偶ej dozy szcz臋艣cia.

Ja nie mia艂em ani szcz臋艣cia, ani analitycznego my艣lenia.

Nikt nie przewidzia艂, 偶e b臋dziemy mie膰 dwie gry z bankructwem i zosta艂y nam jeszcze dwie godziny. By艂 to idealny moment, aby zagra膰 b艂yskawiczny pojedynek w 1836jr. Tym razem ju偶 tylko na 3 graczy. Idealny sk艂ad. By艂a to bardzo szybka potyczka, ale niestety w turze, gdy pojawi艂y si臋 poci膮gi Diesle, musieli艣my przerwa膰 i zapisali艣my stan gry z my艣l膮, 偶e kiedy艣 do niej wr贸cimy.

Co my艣l臋 o spotkaniu? Szkoda, 偶e bardziej nie optowa艂em za 1844, mieliby艣my wtedy rozegran膮 pi臋kn膮 gr臋, ca艂膮 od pocz膮tku do ko艅ca.

Zosta艂 on, chocia偶 troszk臋 z艂agodzony przez ostatni膮 gr臋. Kt贸rej nie rozegrali艣my do ko艅ca, ale kt贸ra by艂a przynajmniej bardzo wyr贸wnana.
